Handball EURO 2020: Croatia defeats Germany to reach semi finals

VIENNA, 18 January 2020 – Croatia has defeated Germany in the Main Round of the 2020 European Men’s Handball Championship on Saturday. 

Croatia were undefeated in group play after wins against Montenegro Belarus and Serbia and made a winning start to the Main Round with a win over Austria in Vienna on Thursday.

Tonight, Croatia came from 14-11 down at halftime, and trailed for most of the match, to win a nail-bitter 25-24 to reach the semifinals.

Croatia are in Group I in the Main Round with Austria, Spain, Germany, Czech Republic and Belarus and now have 6 points. Both Croatia and Spain have now already qualified for the semi-finals.

Croatia will face Czech Republic and Spain in their remaining Main Round matches. 

The 24-team European Men’s Handball Championship is being co-hosted for the first time in three countries, Austria, Norway and Sweden. The semi-finals will be played on 24 January in Stockholm, with the final taking place on 26 January also in Stockholm.
