Government’s ‘1000 Swimming Pools For Croatian Tourism’ Programme Presented

Croatia’s Minister of Tourism Darko Lorencic has this week presented the governments ‘1000 swimming pools for Croatian tourism’ initiative, which will see thousands of swimming pools be built up and down the country as Croatia aims to extend its tourist season.

The government will give 50,000 kuna (6,600 euro) grants or up to 50% of the total investment, for renters of private tourist accommodation homes and small family hotels to build swimming pools.

The requirement to be eligible for the ‘free’ grant is that the swimming pool must be bigger than 30 square metres, with indoor pools larger than 20 square metres. For all pools built up to 50 square metres in size no building permits will be required as part of the incentive scheme. All pools built from 1 January to 31 October will be eligible for the grants for 2013.

Extending the tourist season is one of our main aims. and since places with pools have on average 30% more occupancy, I am sure than this programme will add strength to Croatian tourism,” said Lorencin.
