Government Wipes Debt for 70,000 Croatian Citizens

CroatiaAround 70,000 Croatian citizens will have a total of 1.5 billion kuna (200 million EUR) in debt wiped off as an early christmas present by the nation’s Minister of Finance, writes daily Jutarnji list..

Finance Minister Slavko Linić announced that the government will wipe off the debt, which was mainly accumulated by small businesses which had since closed down. Around 70,000 people, who owe taxes and contributions to the government will no longer have to pay back their debts. Linić added that the government could not do anything about debt owed to banks as that was out of the governments control.
