On Monday 1 October World Coffee Day will be marked and a number of cafes in Croatia will celebrate by giving customers free coffee in return for a poem, song, lyrics, thought or phrase written on a piece of paper.

Croatia will join a number of other countries around the world in the Julius Meinl ‘Pay with a poem’ initiative to celebrate World Coffee Day which is celebrated on 1 October 2018.

Coffee or tea will be free at over 250 cafes across Croatia in exchange for a poem, song, lyrics, or thought. The initiative has been popular when it has taken place over the last five years on World Poetry Day.

More than 100,000 poems were collected during last year’s initiative in Croatia.
