Dubrovnik declared world’s leading seaside metropolitan destination

The Croatian city of Dubrovnik has been declared the world’s leading seaside metropolitan destination at the World Travel Awards 2023, held in Dubai, Morski.hr reported.

This accolade marks the culmination of a series of prestigious awards and recognitions that the city of Dubrovnik has earned throughout the current year.

This noteworthy acknowledgment is the third award that Dubrovnik has secured in the context of this year’s World Travel Awards. In September, in the city of Batumi, Georgia, Dubrovnik was named Europe’s Leading Cruise Destination for 2023, a title it first won in 2021. 

Additionally, it was recognised as Europe’s Leading Seaside Metropolitan Destination for 2023.

The final evening of the World Travel Awards 2023 took place on Friday night at the Burj Al Arab, Dubrovnik was nominated in two categories: the Leading World Cruise Destination for 2023 and the Leading World Seaside Metropolitan Destination for 2023, with the latter award being clinched by Dubrovnik.

The city secured the prize through votes from tourism professionals, media representatives, and tourist consumers, facing tough competition from Miami in the United States, Lisbon in Portugal, Cape Town in South Africa, Perth in Australia, the host city Dubai, Jakarta in Indonesia, Shanghai, and the Attica region in Greece.

Dubrovnik has already earned the title of the best large Croatian city to live in this year, as well as the best in the Smart City category. It has also received four international tourism awards: “Meeting Star” in the category of medium-sized destinations for hosting congresses, “Best Leisure Destination for Groups,” “Europe’s Leading Cruise Destination for 2023,” and “Europe’s Leading Seaside Metropolitan Destination.”

Furthermore, it has been recognised as the fifth safest city in the world and the safest in Europe, as well as one of the ten happiest travel destinations globally.
