Dodig Downs Verdasco to Advance to 2nd Round at US Open

Dodig-Ivan With Marin Cilic still absent from the professional tennis circuit, Croatia’s new number one tennis player Ivan Dodig has made the perfect start to the final Grand Slam of the season in New York.

Dodig has beaten the experienced Fernando Verdasco in the 1st round of the US Open after the 27-year-old Spaniard turned around a 2 sets to love scoreline. Dodig eventually came out on top in five sets – 6:3, 7:5, 1:6, 4:6, 6:3. Dodig now faces Russian Nikolaj Davidenko in the next round. Croatia’s other hopefuls will all be in action today at Flushing Meadows.
