Dalmatian Politician Hopes Chuck Norris And The ‘Monkey’ Gives Him The Edge In Mayoral Race

With local elections just around the corner in Croatia, the race for publicity has already yielded its first local star. Croatian People’s Party (HNS) candidate in the local Mayoral election race in the Dalmatian town of Trogir (near Split) Frane Žižak, has launched a somewhat unique campaign. Žižak is pictured smiling from the jumbo-poster next to a pair of martial arts legend and actor Chuck Norris’ boots and hat with the slogan ”Chuck Norris needs a day, [email protected] needs 4 years”.

According to Dalmacijanews the slogan is implying that Žižak is a realistic man, aware of the fact that he can’t sort out all of Trogir’s problems in one day. Norris, who made history when he became the first Westerner to be given the rank of 8th Degree Black Belt Grand Master, has become the object of an ironic internet meme known as “Chuck Norris Facts”, which document fictional, often absurdly heroic feats and characteristics about him.

Another interesting touch on Frane’s poster is a typo play with the addition of the ”monkey” sign in his name to replace the ‘a’ which may be implying that he is a fan of e-mailing and up with the Facebook generation. Besides being a Mayoral candidate, Frane is chief of Trogir’s Administrative Department for Economy, Tourism and Social Affairs. Local elections are scheduled for 19 May.
