ZAGREB, 9 September 2025 (Hina) – Croatia head coach Zlatko Dalić expressed his satisfaction after his side’s convincing 4-0 win over Montenegro in World Cup qualifying, stressing that the next match in Prague will be crucial in securing a place at the tournament.

With the victory in Zagreb, Croatia collected six points from two matches and remain unbeaten in Group L, with four wins from four games.

They now sit joint top with the Czech Republic on 12 points, but with a game in hand.

“It is true their red card made things easier for us, but I congratulate my players. We achieved our target and took another step closer to qualification. Thanks to the fans for their support – we are all moving forward together and we will see each other again in 20 days,” Dalić said after the match.

The coach also paid tribute to captain Luka Modrić, who will celebrates his 40th birthday today.

“It is always emotional with Luka. The scenes repeat themselves, but it seems he is only getting better. Once again, he held the team together,” Dalić noted.

Looking ahead to the away fixture against the Czech Republic, Dalić underlined the importance of the encounter.

“We are going to Prague to settle everything. We want to secure the World Cup – this is the most important match of these qualifiers. Winning is key, and so is being in the first seeding group ahead of the World Cup,” he explained.

Dalić also pointed to the need for injured players such as Joško Gvardiol and Mateo Kovačić to return, but expressed confidence in the squad’s depth.

“We have a wide roster, with players like Vlašić, Petković and Luka Sučić who are ready. Hopefully, we will be healthy and fully prepared before Prague,” he concluded.

Croatia faces Czech Republic on 9 October.
