Croatia’s Roko Šimić makes list of world’s 50 best young players in football

17-year-old son of former Croatia international to complete club record transfer

One of the world’s top football portal’s GOAL has published its list of the top U19 football talents. 

Making the list of The 50 best wonderkids in football at no.36 is Croatian striker Roko Šimić. 

“Red Bull Salzburg’s conveyor belt of attacking talent is showing no signs of slowing, with Roko Šimić set to be one of the latest strikers to emerge at the Austrian champions.The son of Croatia legend Dario Šimić, the 18-year-old joined Salzburg for €4m in the summer of 2021 having become the youngest scorer in Lokomotiva Zagreb history the previous season.

Šimic, who has been likened to both Erling Haaland and Dusan Vlahovic, has since signed a fresh four-year deal at Salzburg after breaking into the first-team squad, with Real Madrid, Arsenal and Tottenham among those rumoured to be tracking him,” GOAL writes.

Šimić has represented Croatia at youth level, scoring 6 goals in 6 games for the U21 team. 

His famous dad, who played for Dinamo Zagreb, Inter Milan, AC Milan and Monaco, isn’t putting too much pressure on him.

“I don’t interfere too much. I give him advice and I am on hand. I introduce him to what top football means, advise him on what to do to have a better chance of becoming a footballer,” Dario said in an earlier interview. 

18-year-old Borussia Dortmund attacker Jude Bellingham was ranked no.1 on the list, followed by Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen and Gavi from Barcelona.
