Croatia’s Filip Zubčić claims second in World Cup giant slalom in Italy

A remarkable perfomance from Croatian skier Filip Zubčić has seen him finish in second place in the World Cup giant slalom on Sunday in Alta Badia, Italy. 

Zubčić had a remarkable second run of 1:14.28 which put him only 0.31s behind sWISS skier Marco Odermatt. 

The Olympic and world champion recorded the second-fastest time on the second run to secure the victory with a combined time of 2:29.23. 

The Croatian finished second, just 0.19s behind than Odermatt. Slovenia’s Zan Kranjec finished in third place with a combined time of 2:31.49.

The second place finish is equal to Zubčić’s best ever World Cup giant slalom result. 

In the overall World Cup standings, Odermatt is leading with 356 points, Marco Schwartz is in second place with 284 points, and Norwegian Aleksander Aamodt Kilde is in third. Zubčić holds the fifth position with 148 points.
