Croatian teen nominated for 2019 European Golden Boy award

17 June 2019 – The nominees for the coveted Golden Boy award have been released for 2019 and one Croatian footballer is among the candidates. 

Italy’s Tuttosport have held the European Golden Boy awards for the best-rated under-21 talent on the planet since 2003 and have just released the 100-strong list of candidates for this year’s award. 

Among the candidates is 18-year-old Croatian defender David Čolina. The left-back moved to Monaco from Dinamo Zagreb and this season made four appearances in the Youth Champions League.

Čolina has represented Croatia at U-14, U-15, U-16, U-17, U-18 and U-19 level.

Čolina will be vying for the award with some talented players, such as Matthijs De Ligt (Ajax), Moise Kean (Juventus), Vinicuis Junior and Brahim Diaz (Real), Callum James Hudson-Odoi and Ethan Ampadu (Chelsea), Gianluigi Donnarumma (Milan), Jason Malik Sancho (Borussia Dortmund), Timothy Weah (PSG), Kai Havertz (Bayer), and Justin Kluivert (Roma).

Journalists from top sport’s publications like Marca, Bild, the Telegraph, A Bola and more will vote on the winner, while fans have an opportunity to vote for the online version of the award.

Past winners of the European Golden Boy award include Kylian Mbappe, Sergio Aguero and Lionel Messi.
