The Croatian Newspaper Photograph of the Year 2012 has gone to Associated Press photographer Nino Solic. The photo was taken on 16 November 2012 on Zagreb’s central ban Jelacic square as news of the acquittal of Croatian generals Mladen Markac and Ante Gotovina came through.

Solic’s winning photograph beat 1,798 entries from 97 photographers. All photos are now on display at the Klovic Gallery in Zagreb as part of the 10th Croatian Newspaper Photography exhibition. The exhibition will travel to 10 cities around Croatia.
