Croatian Maša Salopek named world’s best pastry chef at Best Chef Awards

Croatian Maša Salopek has been named the world’s best pastry chef at The Best Chef Awards 2021 which were held last night in the Netherlands. 

Maša (34), who was born in Čakovec in northern Croatia, is currently the head pastry chef at the two-time Michelin star Hiša Franko restaurant in Soča Valley, Slovenia. The head chef at Hiša Franko is Ana Roš, who finished 7th in the list of the world’s best 100 chefs. 

After graduating with a master’s degree from the Faculty of Philosophy in Rijeka, Maša graduated in confectionery at the Kul IN Institute. She started her professional career first at Dubravkin put in Zagreb and then at Lone in Rovinj, Kult Plave Kamenice writes.

The Best Chef Awards 2021 were announced at a live awards Gala in Amsterdam with Chef Dabiz Muñoz of DiverXo in Madrid winning The Best Chef Top100 Award.  

Chef Björn Frantzén of Frantzén in Stockholm came in second place and took the award for The Best Chef voted by Chefs. Andoni Luis Aduriz of Mugaritz in San Sebastián was third.
