Croatian hiking club brand Highlander is set to debut in the United States next month.
Founded in 2017 in Croatia when enthusiasts gathered to celebrate nature and explore the mountain of Velebit, Highlander is a global hiking brand, creating once-in-a-lifetime with events in countries around the world.
Highlander creates experiences for people who are ready to get out of their comfort zone and prepare for a multi-day stay in nature during which they are completely self-sustainable.
“Highlander is the leading long-distance hiking event series in the world. Unique aspect of Highlander lies in its concept: It is not a race. We are constantly striving to educate the Highlander community regarding sustainability and “Leave No Trace” philosophy, as well as the importance of preserving our planet that we leave for generations to inherit,” Highlander says.
Now they are taking Highlander to the USA. From the 27th of September to the 2nd of October 2022, Highlander Big Bear Lake, California, a one-of-a-kind hiking journey in the heart of the San Bernardino National Forest, through the San Bernardino Mountains, and around Big Bear Lake will take place.
“The San Bernardino Mountains have formed 11 million years ago and are still actively rising, and Big Bear Lake was once the world’s largest artificial reservoir which is why it’s the perfect location for becoming a Highlander ” Highlander says.
Participants can choose between three formats: Highlander (60 miles), Highlander (30 miles), and Highlander (15 miles). Entry fees start at $329 for individuals to the 30-mile event and $519 for for the 60-mile event. Included in the entry is food, maps, on-duty Mountain Rescue Service members as well as leisure activities.

Holding Highlander in the USA is the result of a strategic partnership of the Croatian brand with the world’s leading event company Spartan Race®, concluded in 2021, which aims to break Highlander into the world’s largest markets in the event industry such as the USA, United Kingdom and China.
Highlander is hosting a number of other events around Europe this year and next year plans to take the event to Austria, Italy, Spain, France, Portugal, South Africa, Germany, Switzerland, and Patagonia.
