28 March 2019 – Croatia’s number one boxer, heavyweight Filip Hrgović, has announced that he is moving to reside in America.

The Olympic bronze medallist has made an impressive start to his professional career, racing to seven wins from seven fights, with five of those wins coming by knockout, since making his pro debut in September 2017.

The 26-year-old Croatian is aiming to position himself for a World title fight within the next couple of years and has revealed that he is about to start a new chapter in his career by moving to live in Miami.

“When you are at home you are in your comfort zone and that is why I want to isolate myself, to go where nobody knows me so I can dedicate myself just to training. This is the only way to bring out my maximum,” Hrgović revealed to RTL yesterday.

Hrgović leaves for Hamburg, Germany on Friday where he will be for 10 days in camp, before heading to his base in Miami on a one-way ticket.

His first fight in America will be on 18 May in Chicago with his opponent still to be confirmed.

Hrgović has teamed up with Anthony Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn alongside his current promoter Team Sauerland.

“I sent him a list of opponents the other day, five of them, they just came back and said any one. When I spoke to Kalle (Sauerland) yesterday he said Filip said to him “why did you even ask me” as in who to fight,” Hearn said.

Last month, Hrgović signed a deal for his future fights to be screened exclusively live on DAZN in the US and Sky Sports in the UK.

“Joshua is now fighting in America, as is Kubrat Pulev, Usyk, Povetkin, now me. When you are with the big players you can expect big things. Over the next couple years it will culminate and maybe the biggest match in the heavyweight category will take place,” Hrgović concluded.
