Croatia to Face Iceland for World Cup Spot

Iceland stand in the way of Croatia and the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil after the playoff draw was made in Zurich on Monday.

It will be the fourth time in 20 years that Croatia must negotiate the playoffs to qualify for a major tournament. Croatia will play their first match away on 15 November, followed by the return leg four days later at Zagreb’s Maksimir stadium on 19 November. In other matches in Europe – Portugal will face Sweden, Ukraine will take on France, and Greece will play Romania.

“We are satisfied!. Especially as we play the return match in Zagreb. But I must stress that we have not qualified yet. Iceland is a young, talented side with an experienced coach. Lagerback was the Sweden coach and Nigeria’s at the 2010 World Cup,” said Croatia;s coach Niko Kovač
