Croatia has finished 2022 as the number one ranked tennis team in the world after another impressive Davis Cup performance.

The Davis Cup Nations Rankings were published by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) at the end of the 2022 Davis Cup where Croatia came close to reaching their fifth final.

Croatia were knocked out in the semi-finals by Australia when they lost the deciding doubles match in three sets.

Croatia, led by Borna Ćorić and Marin Čilić, earlier beat Spain in the quarterfinals for the first time.

Canada, who rose to No. 4 in the rankings, beat Australia in the final on Sunday.

“Croatia rose to No. 1 after their runner-up finish in 2021 and a run to the semi-finals this season has seen them retain top spot. The Croatians previously held the No. 1 ranking between November 2005 and December 2006 and one of just eight nations to have held the No. 1 ranking since the rankings were introduced in 2001 (alongside Argentina, Australia, Czech Republic, France, Great Britain, Russia and Spain),” DavisCup.com wrote.
