Croatian team to open United Cup in Sydney

The 2024 ATP Tour season kicks off with the United Cup, taking place in the Australian cities of Perth and Sydney from December 29, 2023, to January 7, 2024.

Croatia, one of the eighteen nations participating in this mixed-gender tennis tournament, will play their opening matching at the Ken Rosewall Arena in Sydney on New Year’s Day.

The United Cup, now in its second edition, showcases a team competition format that pits nations against each other. Sydney, along with Perth, will host nine teams each, three more than the previous year.

The tournament features six groups of three, with each team facing off in a round-robin format. Croatia is in Group F with Norway and the Netherlands.

The matches consist of one men’s singles, one women’s singles, and one mixed doubles encounter. The three group winners from each city will advance to the quarterfinals, joined by the best runner-up. Sydney will then host the semifinals and final.

There is a substantial prize pool of at least AU$15 million and 1000 combined rankings points up for grabs.

Croatia, led by Donna Vekić, Borna Ćorić and Ivan Dodig, is captained by Iva Majoli. The team also features Nino Serdarušić, Petra Marčinko and Tena Lukas.
