Despite looking rusty and having opening-match nerves, the Croatians lead for most of the game, before blowing their lead near the end of the fourth quarter. Croatia lead after the first quarter 23-9, 37-31 after the second, 57-49 after the third, with scores tied 71-71 at the final buzzer.

“It is never easy to play the opening match at a World Cup, but the most important thing is that we won,” said captain Roko Ukić after the match.

Croatia is in Group B with Argentina, Greece, Philippines, Puerto Rico, and Senegal.
