Croatia Increasingly Attractive to Swiss Tourists

swiss-Switzerland’s Ambassador to Croatia says that interest in Croatia as a destination among Swiss travellers is continuing to rise…

Speaking at a meeting with Croatia’s Tourism Minister Darko Lorencin, Stefan Estermann says an increasing number of Swiss citizens are choosing Croatia as their holiday destination.

“Croatia in the last few years has become an increasingly favourite destination in Switzerland. More and more articles talking about the beauty of your country are being written there and there are more travel organisers are including trips to Croatia in their deals. Croatia is like Switzerland – a small country which needs to attract tourists with quality service and offerings, which considering current results, is definitely succeeding in doing it,” said Estermann.

Croatia has seen constant growth in the number of tourists from Switzerland in the last five years. Last year there were 180,600 arrivals, up 1.6% from the previous year. In the first two months of 2015 there has already been an increase in arrivals from Switzerland of more than 20% with 1,300 arrivals and 3,600 overnight stays.

Around 50% of Swiss citizens arrive to Croatia by car or camper van, whilst 27% arrive by plane. The most popular destinations in Croatia are Istria and the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County.
