Croatia Donates 500,000 HRK to Chile’s Croatian Community

ChileCroatia’s first Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Vesna Pusić has ended her visit to Brazil, Colombia and Chile this weekend by donating half a million kuna (65,000 euros) to Chile’s Croatian community…

Pusić, who also met with Chilean President Michelle Bachelet and Foreign Minister Heraldo Munoz during her visit, donated the money for 6 projects being carried out by Chile’s large Croatian community, the Ministry said.

Pusić commended the Croat community for its efforts to preserve its Croat identity in Chile. Meanwhile the number of Chileans to visit Croatia was on the rise. Last year 5,600 Chilean passport holders visited Croatia, a 16-percent rise on the year.

More than 200,000 people with Croatian descent are estimated to live in Chile, with the majority descendants of those who arrived there from Croatia between 1864 and 1956.
