The Croatian men’s basketball team has convincingly beaten the Czech Republic 70-53 at the Eurobasket in Slovenia on Monday to advance through the group stage to the second round. Croatia’s fourth win on the bounce in what was a ‘must-win’ match, was aided by Ante Tomic’s 12 baskets and 9 rebounds and Dario Saric’s dominance around the court.
“We knew we had to win and of course we were nervous. We should have made sure of it in the 3rd quarter, but we were a little nervous then. We had a lot more pressure on us than the Czech’s had,” said coach Jasmin Repesa after the win, before adding.
“What can I say about the fans? I am happy as a little kid. I thank them for coming and the energy they gave us. I say to the fans, we will not let you down, you will be proud of us,” Repesa said. Croatia face Italy first up in the next round.
