Champions League draw: Dinamo Zagreb to face Manchester City  

MONACO, 29 August 2019 – Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb have learned their UEFA Champions League group opponents today after the draw was made in Monaco. 

Dinamo Zagreb have been drawn in Group C alongside English champions Manchester City, Shakhtar Donetsk from the Ukraine and Atalanta from Italy’s Serie A. 

The first group matches will be played on 17/18 September 2019.

Dinamo Zagreb, who qualified for the Champions League after beating Rosenborg this week 3-1 on aggregate, are guaranteed around 25 million euros with more cash coming their way if they can manage to secure any points during the group stages. 

Dinamo Zagreb’s schedule:

18.9 – Dinamo – Atalanta (21:00)

1.10 – Manchester City – Dinamo (21:00)

22.10 – Šahtar – Dinamo (18:55)

6.11 – Dinamo – Šahtar (21:00)

26.11 – Atalanta – Dinamo (21:00)

11.12 – Dinamo – Manchester City (18:55)

This will be the 7th time that Dinamo Zagreb have played in the group stages of the Champions League. In their six previous performances, they have failed to advance out the group stages, winning four matches, drawing five and losing 36. 

The last time Dinamo Zagreb were in the Champions League group stages was back in the 2016-7 season when they finished bottom of a group consisting of Juventus, Lyon and Sevilla. 

The Champions League final will take place in Instanbul, Turkey, 15 years after it was last held in the city when Liverpool famously beat Milan to win the trophy.
