Snowfall swept across much of Croatia overnight, creating difficult travel conditions and prompting warnings from meteorologists and road authorities.
The Croatian Meteorological and Hydrological Service (DHMZ) forecasts a cloudy, windy and relatively cold day ahead, with further wintry weather expected throughout the country.
Along the Adriatic, periods of rain are forecast, while Dalmatia can expect heavy showers accompanied by thunder.
Inland areas will see sleet and snow, with a new snow cover forming in places and a thicker blanket likely in the mountains.
Strong winds could also lead to blowing snow in parts of the northern Adriatic.
The Croatian Automobile Club (HAK) has urged drivers to exercise caution as winter conditions are affecting roads nationwide. Several key routes remain closed due to heavy snow and storm-force winds.
The A1 motorway is closed to all traffic between the Sveti Rok and Posedarje junctions.
A diversion for passenger vehicles is available via state roads DC50 and DC27 (Gračac–Obrovac–Karin), while other vehicle categories, with the exception of lorries with trailers and articulated trucks, may detour via DC1 and DC59 through Knin and Kistanje.
The Adriatic Highway (DC8) between Senj and Sveta Marija Magdalena is also shut, along with state road DC54 (Maslenica–Zaton Obrovački), the Pag Bridge (DC106) and local road ŽC5126 (Sveti Juraj–Krasno).
Some routes remain open only to passenger vehicles. These include the A6 motorway (Rijeka–Zagreb) between Delnice and Kikovica, with other vehicles diverted via DC3 through Gorski kotar.
Restrictions also apply on the A7 between Orehovica and Škurinje, as well as state roads DC25 (Lički Osik–Gospić–Karlobag) and DC27 (Gračac–Zaton Obrovački–Donji Karin).
Authorities advise motorists to avoid unnecessary travel, follow official updates and ensure their vehicles are equipped for winter conditions.
