Blanka Vlašić elected to European Olympic Committees Athletes’ Commission

ZAGREB, 3 Oct (Hina) – Renowned Croatian athlete Blanka Vlašić was elected to the European Olympic Committees (EOC) Athletes’ Commission for the next four years at the 6th Assembly of the European Athletes in Dubrovnik on Saturday.

Estonian athlete Gerd Kanter was re-elected Commission chair.

More than 70 athletes and representatives of national Olympic committees attended the meeting, which was opened by Croatian Olympic Committee president Zlatko Mateša. Those attending were also greeted by Special Advisor for Sport to the Croatian Minister of Tourism and Sport Josip Pavić.

EOC president Spyros Capralos thanked “beautiful Dubrovnik” for hosting the event. 

Among those present was also International Olympic Committee Athletes’ Commission chair Emma Terho.

Vlašić ended her career as one of the best Croatian athletes of all time back in February 2021. During her career, she won two Olympic medals, a silver and bronze, 17 Golden League titles, 14 Diamond League titles, and 9 World and European medals. 

She was named the Best Track and Field Athlete in the World, the Best Athlete in Europe twice, the Best Athlete in the World, and the Best Athlete in Europe by the International Association of Sports Journalists twice. She was also named the Best Athlete in Croatia six times.
