Anniversary of Nikola Tesla’s death marked in Zagreb

7 January 2019 – Today marks the 76th anniversary of the death of one of the most important inventors in history, Croatia-born scientist Nikola Tesla. 

Tesla died aged 86 on January 7 1943 in New York and was remembered largely for inventing the electrical system.

Zagreb Mayor Milan Bandić laid a wreath and lit a candle at the Tesla monument in downtown Zagreb in memory of the great inventor on Monday.

The 76th anniversary of his death will also be marked in New York where he spent much of his life.

Tesla was born on 10 July 1856 in the village of Smiljan in the region of Lika in Croatia.

Apart from inventing the modern AC electrical supply system, Tesla is also known for his high-voltage, high frequency power experiments in New York and Colorado Springs which included patented devices and theoretical work used in the invention of radio communication, for his X-ray experiments, and for his attempts at intercontinental wireless transmission.
