Davor Šuker in Running for UEFA’s Best Goal of All-Time

CroatiaEuropean football’s governing body UEFA is celebrating its 60th birthday by selecting the best goal of the last 60 years, with Croatian Davor Šuker’s sublime lob against Denmark in 1996 in the running…

Šuker’s lob over Denmark goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel at EURO ’96 in England has made the shortlist of the best 60 goals of all-time, which are rated by readers to find the best.

“With competition debutants Croatia 2-0 up against defending champions Denmark in the EURO ’96 group stage, Davor Šuker scored a superb goal against a player he described as “the best goalkeeper in the world”. Peter Schmeichel had raced back having gone forward for a corner, but was unable to stop Šuker lifting the ball over his head late on,” wrote UEFA.

UEFA was founded by a group of pioneering administrators in Basel, Switzerland on 15 June 1954.
