VUKOVAR, 12 September 2025 (Hina) – A delegation from China’s Hebei Province, led by Vice-Governor Jin Hui, visited Vukovar on Wednesday to discuss the establishment of a logistics hub that could strengthen trade ties and transport links between Croatia and China.
The meeting brought together representatives from Hebei Province, Vukovar-Srijem County, the Port of Vukovar, and the Zagreb-based company Special Economic Zone.
Talks centred on closer integration of the Port of Vukovar with railway connections along the China–Europe route, new trans-Caspian channels, and the potential creation of a logistics hub in Vukovar.
An agreement was also reached to continue cooperation with Hebei International Land Port Group, a move that could see Vukovar become a key point for multimodal transport in the region.

“It is important for us to be talking about logistics, and I am confident we will see the first results here in the Port of Vukovar very soon. This should be the start of excellent cooperation in the field of logistics. We want to use the capacities of the port and railway, and I believe we have found good economic partners and perhaps even future friends,” said Vukovar-Srijem County Prefect Ivan Bosančić.
Marijan Kuprešak, Director of the Port of Vukovar, highlighted the significance of the talks for the future of the port, which has lost around 60% of its revenue due to the war in Ukraine.
“We want to establish a logistics hub in the Port of Vukovar for the storage and transhipment of containers. At present we are offering 80% of the port’s capacity and can begin immediately, without additional investment. Our Chinese partners have expressed interest in joint investment under the new concession period, which opens the door to new projects, increased revenues, and more jobs,” Kuprešak said.

The cooperation also extends to Osijek Airport, where a 30,000-square-metre warehouse has already been secured for the distribution of Chinese goods.
According to Special Economic Zone, in partnership with Hebei Logistics, eastern Croatia is seen as a strategic location for multimodal transport linking waterways, roads, railways, and air routes.
