Forbes names Croatia among 7 best places to visit in shoulder season

Spring is a great time to visit Hvar

Stari Grad, Hvar

Forbes magazine has included Croatia on its list of the 7 places to visit in the shoulder season.

The shoulder season is considered the seasons which are neither the peak or offseason. In Croatia’s case, its shoulder season is spring and autumn.

Forbes contributor Ramsey Qubein shares seven top destinations to visit during these shoulder seasons, saying that traveling before the peak season kicks in is a smart choice for those seeking to explore new destinations with fewer crowds and at a lower cost.

During the summer months, popular Croatian cities like Dubrovnik and Split become unbearably crowded, he says. Even somewhat hidden gems like the island of Hvar can be overrun by tourists.

“Traveling in April, May, or September can fetch excellent discounts and fewer people. It’s worth noting that many hotels in tourist hubs like Dubrovnik shut their doors in winter, but arriving at the tail end or beginning of the season can mean lower prices. Cruise ships flood local ports during summer, although the government has taken steps over the years to alleviate the pressure. Before winter brings its chill (and rain), explore Croatia’s historic old towns, crystal-clear beaches, and lush vineyards.”

Other destinations named on the list with Croatia include Iceland, Morocco, Machu Picchu in Peru, Hawaii, Cape Town in South Africa, and African safaris.

These places offer unique experiences with fewer tourists and better deals during the shoulder season.
