Another great film festival in Croatia gets underway this week…
The Dalmatian coastal town of Zadar will host the 6th Avvantura Film Festival from 22-28 August. Over 100 recent productions awarded at the festivals in Cannes, Berlin, Toronto and Venice will be featured at this year’s festival which will be opened by “The Assassin”, a film by Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao-Hsien, who won the Best Director Award at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
This year’s Avvantura Film Festival, which will be held across 4 venues – Forum, St. Chrysogonus’ Square, St. Dominic’s Church and Petrcane – will also feature films by up and coming young authors who are making their way into the film world.
The festival includes two retrospective programmes, one dedicated to German producer Karl Baumgartner, the winner of the Berlinale Camera award who died last year, and the other to French cinematography, organised in cooperation with the Rendez-vous Festival of France in Croatia and the Croatian ministries of foreign affairs and culture.
