500 International Trekkers Taking Part in Croatia Race

Over 500 trekkers from all over the world will take part in the Lika Cave Trekk this Saturday 23 July 2016…

Organisers have been surprised with the huge interest from trekkers in Croatia and all over the world in the 1st Lika Cave Trekk which will be held on a 100 kilometre-long course.

Over 500 adventure athletes will run from cave to cave in Lika’s Pećinski park Grabovača, which is Croatia’s only cave park. The course has four stages of various intensity and length – Active, Challenger and Ultra – all with a start in the centre of Perušić.

“We are ready for an event which will put Lika firmly on the map of adventure tourism and sporting races. We have done a lot of work on the quality of the course to make sure it meets all the requirements for a professional race and provides safety for all the athletes that take part. Lika Cave Trekk will become a traditional event which will promote our park in the best way and Lika as an unforgettable adventure destination,” Pećinski park Grabovača Director Katarina Milković said.

Along with the race there will also be a chance to enjoy in some of the other delights of Lika, including trying some of the local cuisine, and the chance to see artists create some Nikola Tesla-inspired paintings. Tesla, whose 160th anniversary of his birth is being celebrated this year, was born in Lika. A concert from popular Croatian band Vatra will follow the race.

Lika Cave Trekk is organised by Pećinski park Grabovača with Zaklada Ana Rukavina, WWF Adria and outdoor.hr. The race will be part of the Trekking League.
