4 Injured as Ferry Crashes into Pier in Split

CroatiaFour passengers on board a Jadrolinija ferry were taken to hospital on Tuesday after the ferry crashed into a pier on arrival…

The ‘Lubenice’ ferry was making its way from the port of Rogač on the island of Šolta, to Split, when it crashed into the ramp at the St. Peter pier on arrival to the mainland. Radio Dalmacija reported that a number of people were injured, with four passengers taken to hospital. It is believed that most of the ferry’s passengers were down in the garage of the ferry when the impact occurred, sending most of them to the ground.

“I went to go in my car which was in the garage of the boat, and the staff on the boat were all waving their hands and yelling that the boat was going to crash and to hold on tight. After a few seconds there was a loud bang and everyone fell to the floor,” a witness told daily Slobodna Dalmacija.

The incident happened just before 11:00am on Tuesday.
