Two people are dead, and one seriously injured after a four-seat light amphibious Lake Buccaneer aircraft crashed at a beach in Kaštel Štafilić just outside of Split yesterday afternoon…

The tragic accident occurred at 17.40 on Thursday when the three passengers of the plane where out on a pilot training exercise for European Coastal Airlines (ECA). The plane, not one used commercially by ECA but a plane used for training their pilots, lost control and crashed at the edge of the beach in front of Hotel Resnik not far from Split airport.

Daily newspaper 24sata reports that one of the men killed was a foreign national. The survivor of the crash, who has a broken arm, leg and serious head injuries, is fighting for his life in Split hospital.

Investigations will be carried out to see what caused the light plane to crash.

“We will do everything in our power to help investigations of this accident. We want to express our condolences to the family and friends of our colleagues. All our prayers and thoughts are with our colleagues,” ECA said in a statement.
