Modric was on the front page of the Marca and there was nothing but praise for the Croat who turned in arguably his best performance in a Real Madrid shirt.

“Modric has something special. He created the first two goals with genius assists,” wrote the Marca, one of the most popular Spanish daily sports papers.

“Luka Modric played his best game in a Real Madrid shirt against Ajax. Mourinho put him in the centre of midfield and the Croat played brilliantly, especially in the first half,” said the report.

It was not just the media who were all over the former Dinamo Zagreb star, coach Jose Mourinho was impressed with Modric, saying that he played brilliantly and that he is a player for the present, not just the future.
