Etihad Denies Croatia Airlines Interest

EtihadairplaneUnited Arab Emirates Etihad Airways have denied that they are looking to acquire a stake in Croatia’s national carrier Croatia Airlines.

A report in Croatian daily Jutarnji list earlier in the week, claiming unidentified sources, said that the Abu Dhabi-based airline was interested in Croatia Airlines after the Croatian government announced that it planned to issue a tender for the sale of a stake in the financially strapped airline by 15 October.

An Etihad Airline spokesperson told Arabian Business that the carrier, which recently acquired a 49% stake in Serbian national carrier Jat Airways, “is not in talks with Croatia Airlines”. Media reports also claimed that Garuda Indonesia and China Southern Airlines were also reportedly interested in Croatia Airlines, with Croatia’s Minister of Maritime Affairs, Transport and Infrastructure Siniša Hajdaš Dončić, and Croatia Airlines supervisory board president Siniša Petrović expected to meet Garuda Indonesia and Indonesian government officials next week.
