Joy has turned to despair for Dinamo Zagreb’s Youth side after news on Monday that they have been thrown out of the UEFA Youth Champions League…

Dinamo Zagreb beat Anderlecht in Brussels last week 2-0 to advance to the quarter-final of the UEFA Youth Champions Leagues and set up a date with FC Barcelona, but on Monday the club received some bad news after it was revealed the club bought on a player in the last 5 minutes of the match who was under suspension.

“GNK Dinamo would like to inform the fans and public about following UEFA’s decision on the latest UEFA Youth league case: GNK Dinamo Youth team is deemed to have lost the match 3:0 and Matija Fintić still has to serve one UEFA competition match suspension for which he would be otherwise eligible. Anderlecht will play in the quarterfinal of the UEFA Youth league,” the club announced in a statement on its website today.

Dinamo Zagreb advanced out of their group which featured Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Olympiakos, the same sides as the senior team faced in their group, before beating Anderlecht. Dinamo were due to face Barcelona in Zagreb on 9 March 2016.
