12 March 2019 – The world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, lit up in the colours of the Croatian flag on Tuesday.

The Burj Khalifa lit up in the colours of the Croatian flag today in honour of the Croatian delegation, led by Zagreb mayor Milan Bandić who arrived in the UAE yesterday.

Bandić and his delegation are in Dubai on an official three-day visit. This morning they met with Dawood Abdul Rahman, who is the director-general of Dubai Municipality, where discussions about economic cooperation and also cooperation in the field of tourism between the two cities took place.

A meeting was also held with Emirati businessman Mohamed Alabbar, who is the founder of one of the largest real estate development companies in the world. He is interested in the ‘Zagreb Manhattan’ project which is planned for Zagreb’s showgrounds and racetrack.

“This project would launch Zagreb and Croatia both in economic and tourist terms. This is a big step for Zagreb and Croatia to be put on the map of Europe. Modern technology will play a very important role in this project. Smart energy, smart water supply, smart transport,” Alabbar said after the meeting, Jutarnji list reported.

This is the second time that the Burj Khalifa has lit up in the Croatian colours. Back in June last year, the world’s tallest building lit up to pay homage to Croatia’s 3-0 win over Argentina in the 2018 World Cup.

Croatia coach Zlatko Dalic is a well-loved figure in UAE after coaching Al Ain FC and becoming the best coach in the league’s history and to honour him they lit the building up in red and white.

With a total height of 829.8 metres and a roof height (excluding antenna) of 828 metres, the Burj Khalifa has been the tallest structure in the world since its topping out in late 2008.
