29 August 2021 – Croatia’s great run at the Women’s European Volleyball Championships has ended at the hands of France today.

Playing for a quarterfinal place, Croatia was beaten by the French in a 5-set thriller 3-2. Croatia lead 1-0 and then again 2-1 as France staged a comeback twice at the Štark Arena in Belgrade.

France will now meet the winner of the Serbia v Hungary match in the quarterfinal. That match will also be played in Belgrade.

It has been a great tournament for Daniele Santarelli’s team. During the group stages in Zadar, Croatia beat Switzerland, Belarus, Hungary and Slovakia.

A loss to favourites Italy meant Croatia finished second in Pool C to reach today’s last 16 match.
