Vjesnik building
The company EURCO from Vinkovci has been selected to demolish Zagreb’s well-known Vjesnik tower.
The demolition follows a serious fire in November, after which authorities determined that the building posed a risk of collapse.
The contract covers the preparation of project documentation and the removal of the skyscraper, with the work valued at €4.2 million (excluding VAT).
The selection was confirmed by Minister of Physical Planning, Construction and State Assets Branko Bačić, who presented key details at a media conference today.
The Vjesnik complex covers around 5,000 square metres, located on more than three hectares of land.
Since December 2022, the Croatian state has owned 63% of the site, with Hrvatske holding 27.8%, while the remainder is owned by other legal entities.
The area was fenced off, secured and placed under constant supervision.
Temporary traffic solutions were introduced in the surrounding area, including parts of Savska Road and Slavonska Avenue, as an emergency measure.
A total of 18 bids were submitted for the project, with prices ranging from €1.8 million to €5.5 million. After a negotiated procedure involving the most reliable bidders, EURCO was selected based on the most economically advantageous offer, considering price, expertise and completion deadlines.
According to the plan, the first phase, enabling the reopening of the underpass on Slavonska Avenue, should be completed within 30 days, while full demolition is expected within three months.
The building will be removed using mechanical methods, not explosives.
If no appeals are lodged by 19 January, the contract is expected to be signed on 21 January.
