Armed with a microphone, Stanko Zovak, comedian and host of the All Things Croatia podcast, took to the streets of Los Angeles with a mission. 

His mission –  to challenge locals with the intricate art of Croatian pronunciation. 

Croatian is renowned for being difficult and there are some tricky words to pronounce. 

As the video (below) reveals, there were some surprisingly good and humours attempts. 

Stanko, and fellow Croatian-American comedian George Dulcich will also be performing on stage in San Jose to kick off the Croatian Catholic Mission Assumption of Mary’s annual Soccer Tournament Weekend. 

Stanko and George, who has opened for the likes of Shapel Lacy and Jeff Dye in Los Angeles,, crack jokes about their experience living in Zagreb together while studying Croatian language, as well as life in the diaspora communities. 

The event takes place on Thursday February 1st at the Art Boutiki Music Hall in San Jose, California.

Americans try to speak Croatian

The duo will be representing Croatia at Balkan Comedy Night and are planning on touring in other Croatian communities around North America.

The rest of the celebration weekend includes Pub Night on Friday with live music from Klapa Uvala, Saturday’s all day soccer tournament with teams from all over North America, and a Sveti Vlaho celebration at night with hundreds of Croatians expected. 

On Sunday there is also a picnic at the church and a cornhole tournament. The goal of the weekend is to bring Croatians in the community and around North America together with comedy, food, music, and soccer.
