ZAGREB, 7 Jan (Hina) – The town of Vela Luka on the southern Croatian Adriatic island of Korčula has raised one-off payments for children born from 1 January 2026, especially for third and subsequent children, and significantly raised the ongoing monthly allowance for families with three or more children.

The one-off payment rises from €530 to €600 for the first child, from €700 to €800 for the second, and from €1,000 to €1,300 for the third and subsequent children.

The monthly allowance, paid over five years, increases from €66.36 to €100 for the third child, and from €132.72 to €200 for the fourth and subsequent children.

Combined, parents of a third child receive €7,300 (€1,300 one-off and €6,000 over five years), and for a fourth or subsequent child €13,300 (€1,300 one-off and €12,000 over five years).

Payments require parents and children to be resident in Vela Luka.

Vela Luka joins other local authorities, such as Senj, in raising newborn support.

According to 2025 data from the Ministry of Demography, only six municipalities and 12 counties provided no payments last year.

Some municipalities and islands, including Sali, Milna, Pučišća, Vis and Komiža, offer substantial one-off and ongoing allowances, with amounts for third and subsequent children ranging from €1,600 one-off to over €14,000 in long-term support.

Continental municipalities such as Petrinja, Pleternica and Rugvica also provide varying forms of one-off or monthly support, sometimes linked to continued residency or special needs.
