The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), which is the largest mixed martial arts organisation in the world featuring the top-ranked fighters in the sport, will be coming to Croatia for the first time…

Arena in the Croatian capital Zagreb will host UFC on 10 April, organisers announced on Friday.

Although it is not yet announced which fighters will be in town, Croatian fans will be hoping that American-Croatian Stipe Miočić will be in Zagreb fighting for the title on that date. Miočić is awaiting the winner of the Fabricio Werdum – Cain Velázquez fight for a title-fight in the heavyweight category.

“It will be a dream come true to fight in Croatia. I was there last year and trained with Mirk Filipović (Cro Cop). It will be an excellent experience to see the country and spend time with family,” Miočić said.

UFC opens a new chapter in Europe after debuting in Poland last year. Besides Zagreb, Amsterdam are also expected to host fights on 8 May.

“Croatia is a sporting nation and we are more than delighted that we will host such a spectacular fighting organisation that is UFC. Not only because of the beauty of sport, but because the UFC promotes health, a desire to succeed and a way of life. I am very excited that Arena Zagreb will be the first location in the region to hold this event and make history,” Arena project manager Miroslav Stanec said.
