Success for Croatia at world’s largest cheese awards 

Four Cheeses from Croatia’s Gligora awarded at 2023 Great Taste Awards

There has been success for Croatia at the 35th World Cheese Awards, the world’s largest global cheese event. 

Arranged by the Guild of Fine Food, the World Cheese Awards  brought together experts from all over the world to choose this year’s winner.

Nidelven Blå a blue Norwegian cheese from Gangstad Gårdsysteri, was declared the world’s no.1 cheese.

In 2023, the competition hit a new high with 4,502 cheeses competing, the largest number ever. They arrived via various means of transport to be evaluated by a respected group of cheese specialists.

The Croatian cheeses entered into the competition included Kolan extra aged cheese from the Gligora which won gold rating, while the Istrian sheep cheese, Istrian hard cow cheese, Istrian mixed cheese, and Agrolaguna’s Istrian sheep cheese took home silver.

The bronze was awarded to the Paški sir, and extra-aged Paški sir from the Gligora, followed by Dukat’s President Grand Oval Trappist, Vindija’s hard cheese Riserva Ovidur, and Dalmatinac cheese from the Paška sirana.
