20 September 2019 – American-Croatian UFC champ Stipe Miocic looks like he will be squaring off against Daniel ‘DC’ Cormier for a third time.

Last month, Miocic won his UFC heavyweight belt back after a 4th round TKO against Daniel Cormier at UFC 241. Miocic got his revenge on Cormier after he beat him in their first meeting in 2018.

On Thursday, UFC boss Dana White confirmed they are working on making a trilogy happen.

“Stipe is recovering from that fight. He’s got some bumps and bangs from that fight. We’re waiting for him to heal and then yeah, we’re going to do the trilogy,” White told Barstool Sports.

Cormier told Joe Rogan in the cage after his loss to Miocic that he would contemplate retiring. He has not made a public announcement but White’s statement suggests he will be back to take on the American-Croatian for the third time and likely his last ever fight in the UFC.

36-year-old Miocic, who has the most consecutive title defences in UFC heavyweight history after defending his belt three times against Alistair Overeem, Junior dos Santos and Francis Ngannou.

With both fighters recovering from the fight in August, White couldn’t give a timeline when he hoped to book the fight, but it seems Stipe Miocic v Danier Cormier 3 would not go ahead until next year.
