5 May 2019 – American-Croatian Stipe Miocic will get a chance to fight for the UFC heavyweight title in August, the UFC officially announced on Saturday.

Miocic will fight Daniel Cormier in a heavyweight title rematch on August 17 at UFC 241 in Anaheim, California. The pair will square off just over a year after their last title fight which went the way of Cormier.

UFC officials confirmed the fight during yesterday’s broadcast of UFC Ottawa.

Miocic, who has not had a fight since taking on Cormier last year, has the most consecutive title defences in UFC heavyweight history when he defended his belt three times against Alistair Overeem, Junior dos Santos and Francis Ngannou.

He now has a chance to claim it back again.

After beating Miocic at UFC 226 last July, Cormier defended his belt against Derrick Lewis. He was set to take on Brock Lesnar but after he announced his retirement from mixed martial arts, the UFC decided on the Cormier v Miocic rematch.

UFC 241 will take place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
