Croatian discus champion Sandra Perković has continued her dominance in the sport by winning gold today at the Birmingham Diamond League meeting.
The 27-year-old, who won her second World Championship title last Sunday at the IAAF World Championships in London, won with a throw of 67.51 metres.
Perković’s winning throw, which she threw in her 3rd attempt in the final, was more than 2 metres further than that of silver medal winner Denia Caballero from Cuba (65.24 metres). Yaime Perez, also from Cuba, won bronze with a throw of 65.11.
The win was her 36th Diamond League victory in 46 appearances. She is already assured of a place in the Diamond League final in Brussels, leading with 31 points.
Perković’s win last week at the IAAF World Championships in London means she now has 2 Olympic and 2 World titles to go with her four European titles.
History repeats itself 😊5 years ago I won my first Olympic Gold in this stadium. Tonight, I got to “dance” in the same circle with the gold medal around my neck 🥇. Croatian anthem was played and Croatian flag was raised in London Stadium again 🇭🇷I am overwhelmed with the emotions right now and I just want to say big thank you to my family, my team, and everyone who is supporting my journey 🙆🏼 Your DISCUS QUEEN 😉👸🏼 #WorldChampion2017 #London2017 #TeamSP #AnotherOne #Weltmeister #Gold #GoldenGirl #TrackAndField #Discus #WCH #Croatia
