The Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS) have presented a new app to put hikers and tourists on the right path in Croatia.

Safe Trails (sigurnestaze.hr), a web app and interactive map of Croatia, is intended for hikers and excursionists. The app allows the creation of custom routes, searching and exploring terrains, trails, objects, climbing areas, and peaks.

The Safe Trails app utilises verified data from the Registry of Hiking Trails and Circuits of the Croatian Mountaineering Association, featuring paths suitable for hiking and mountaineering based on the information collected on the ground by the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service.

The purpose of this app is to promote active tourism in rural and challenging-to-reach areas, with an emphasis on increasing the level of safety, HGSS said.

The goal is to provide access to information, enhance the level of safety, and ensure the accuracy of the data.

The app is available in Croatian and English.
