President Josipovic: Serious Government Crisis

Croatia’s President Ivo Josipovic hopes that the current discord between ruling coalition parties the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the Croatian People’s Party (HNS) is sorted out soon as it is a clear sign that there is a serious government crisis.

Signs of a rift in the coalition marriage appeared last week when the HNS objected to the draft law on real estate taxes. HNS president Radimir Cacic, who resigned as deputy PM recently after ordered to serve time in jail for his part in a road fatality in Hungary, is accused of being the instigator by SDP.

“We can only guess its someone’s influence,” Josipovic told Croatian Television, adding that it would not be good if Cacic was pulling strings in the back ground as politics need to be transparent.
