The Istrian coastal town of Umag has officially unveiled its newly reconstructed riva, marking the completion of a key strategic project within the City Development Plan 2021 to 2030.

The refurbished seafront, opened on 11 July 2025, offers a fresh and modern face to one of Croatia’s most picturesque coastal towns.

Mayor Vili Bassanese, along with his deputies and colleagues, inaugurated the revamped promenade with a walk along the new stretch, which now offers both locals and visitors a beautiful setting by the sea.

The project covered nearly two kilometres of the waterfront promenade, extending from the area near the City Administration and Luciano Delbianco Park to the ACI Marina.

This comprehensive undertaking included the repair of the sea wall damaged by erosion, installation of essential infrastructure such as sewerage and stormwater drainage systems, public lighting, and the paving of the promenade with natural stone.

It also included new urban furniture and a continuous stone-covered concrete bench.

Enhancements such as the renovated Humagum Park, a newly designed rose alley and a modern children’s playground have further elevated the charm of the promenade.

This project forms part of a broader strategy to develop the entire Umag promenade as outlined in the city’s long-term development plan.

The final touch, a citrus park, is planned for the autumn and will complete the transformation of the only remaining section.

Mayor Bassanese expressed his pride in the achievement, stating:

“The Umaška riva is now complete, and I can proudly say our city has gained a more beautiful and inviting appearance. This is not just the end of one phase, but a major step towards realising our strategic goal: creating a promenade that connects people, nature and tradition, ultimately forming the longest seafront walkway on the Adriatic.

The new riva is now a source of pride for all of us – a place for children, seniors, tourists and everyone who enjoys walking by the sea, sunsets and spending time outdoors.”
