PHOTOS: Best Croatian strudel found at 4th ŠtrudlaFest

JAŠKOVO, 8 September 2019 – The small central Croatian town of Jaškovo played host on Sunday to the 4th edition of the festival dedicated to the strudel, ŠtrudlaFest. 

One of the features of the ŠtrudlaFest was a competition to find the best strudel in the country. The winners were a team of ladies from the village of Severin na Kupi in Gorski Kotar. The KUD Frankopan team won over the jury with their taste of apple and chokeberry and took the title of the best strudel in Croatia.

Second place went to the team Srce Jaškova from Jaškovo, whilst third place went to OPG Kovač, also from Jaškovo.

Strudel makers from all over the country created over 70 different types of strudels, from traditional apple strudel to more exotic strudels with blitva and lamb filings. The large crowd which turned out today purchased over 10,000 strudels.

Hosted by Doris Pincic Rogoznica, there was also workshops for young and old to learn all about the famous pastry during the day-long festival. Entertainment on the day included horse riding, a kids corner and performances from local culture groups.

Back in 2015, Jaškovo entered the Guinness Book of Records for the world’s longest strudel – 1,479.38 metres.
